Frank

Frank was old cowboy who did things the old cowboy way, and ever since I first met him, I wanted to make a portrait of him. At the time though, I also remember feeling that I wouldn't be able to do him justice as I was just starting out in my photo-life (this is about 10 years ago). When I finally got up the guts enough to ask him, he obliged in the most sincere of old cowboy ways, with a firm handshake. Little did I know at the time that he was a veteran model. Painters, sculptors, photographers; they have all admired this man in their own distinctive ways. How could you not be drawn to his face?

A genuine, sincere and kind man, I wish I could've spent more time with him and gotten to really know him, but shortly after this first colaboration between us, he died when his truck was struck by a train near his ranch. It was a double track and while one long train was just sitting there, he didn't see the one behind it coming toward him.

And just like an old cowboy has stories, everyone has a Frank story. This is my Frank story.

Its perfect. I love it. It reminds me of my grandfather...the old cowboy, with his weathered face and hands of leather. The pipe and hat...takes me back. What a great moment. Thanks
